3 easy carbs to reach your goals

For way too long, carbs have been positioned in the wellness realm to be the enemy.

But the reality is carbs are vital to a healthy, functioning body.  An expert at Cedars Sinai quickly explains macronutrients’ importance for our bodies.

Here is my cheat sheet with 3 easy carbs to incorporate into your day.  Each super easy to prep for meals, whether staying in or taking on the go!

#1 Sweet potato fries

Roots farm fresh sweet potato fries have been my favorite since introduced at Expo West 2025. (Curious about my favorite finds in 2026? Check it out here.)

First and foremost, these are seed oil free. The ingredient oil is avocado oil. These USDA Organic sweet potato fries clock in at 130 calories and 20 carbs.

Having these on hand in my freezer makes it an easy way to get good carbs in (and not have to measure / slice etc.).   If you know, you know.  Time is a precious commodity.

#2 Edamame fettuccini

USDA Organic, always. I recently picked up Seapoint Farms gluten-free, high protein edamame fettuccini and it is really good.

Nutritionally, 200 calories, 21 grams of carbs (with a whopping 12 grams of fiber), and 24 grams of protein to compliment it.

I put a few dollops of Kite Hill almond milk ricotta alternative for a tangy, dairy free taste of goodness and a few basil leaves.

Super simple – super satisfying.

Hello homemade Italian…but make it healthy.

This is so filling and checks all the boxes.  If you’re needing more protein, adding a handful of chopped chicken breast is the answer!

#3 A toasted slice of Ezekiel bread

A slice of this bread with a healthy dose of protein (like cottage cheese – you can whip it up in a blender for a delicious smooth consistency) or if you’d rather top it with a healthy fat (almond butter – here’s my favorite brand or a lower-calorie powdered peanut butter alternative, based on your preference and taste buds).

Let’s talk ingredients and nutrition with Ezekiel bread.

To start, it’s

  • A plant protein
  • Flourless
  • High fiber
  • Diabetic friendly

80 calories per slice, 12 net carbs, and 4 grams of protein.  You choose your topping – and move forward with your day.

To me, these are carb options that make sense nutritionally.  When we find meal options that come together efficiently and have added benefits, it’s a plus.
