3 “red flag” foods identified by Cleveland Clinic expert

Have you ever wondered “what would an expert tell me to eliminate from my diet” to feel better and be healthier?

Beth Czerwony, registered dietician with Cleveland Clinic has identified those for all of us.

To start off, she explained that if you are struggling with weight management, it may not always be what you are consuming!

“When someone is interested in weight management, it isn’t always the diet- it may be poor sleep, low physical activity, or increased stress,” Czerwony said.

Know that a one-on-one meeting with a registered dietitian can be the best route so a thorough assessment of the quality and timing of your diet can be conducted.

The top 3 “red flag” foods to eliminate or greatly reduce according to Czerwony:

#1 Sugar-laden beverages

#2 High fat foods from fast food and other processed snacks

#3 Alcohol

How does water play a role in your health?

A quick scroll on any social media channel and you’ll find influencers promoting electrolyte packets. Simple, plain old water seems from all intents and purposes to not be good enough. But is that the honest truth?

Is plain water not cutting it these days?

Czerwony said, “Any type of water is fine, and there are no known benefits to any type of ‘specialty’ waters.  If someone has hard water, they may prefer bottled water. There is no need to have electrolytes added unless it was recommended by their medical provider.”

So you choose what water works for you (plain tap water, purified or spring water, alkaline water, electrolyte-packed infused water), but based on this expert’s opinion paying for an electrolyte packet subscription may not be necessary or add any benefit health wise.

Why not spend the money in a way that truly will improve your health? Investing in fresh whole foods is an idea.
