I tried Clean 7 – here’s what you need to know

I’m one of those people that is always willing and eager to try a new route when it comes to health and wellness.

I’m just curious what it’s like, how I’ll feel, and what benefits may come from various programs.

What is Clean 7®?

Clean 7 is a 7-day detoxification program that involves intermittent fasting, ayurvedic science and functional medicine.

As Dr. Alejandro Junger said in the program guide, it is a “program designed to jumpstart your body’s natural healing process … and is a union of both modern and ancient sciences.”

How does Clean 7 achieve this?

“The Clean 7 program brings physiological balance by nourishing your body with nutrients, antioxidants, and Ayurvedic adaptogenic herbs.”

I tried Clean 7.  Here are the fast facts from my 7-day experience.

I feel like with any “cleanse”, “reset” or the like there’s always a lot of buzz and threads around preparation and what to do leading up to it in order to have an ideal experience during it.

What does a day on Clean 7 look like?

Typically 1 to 2 clean smoothies (where you get to add in healthy ingredients that you like), a light lunch consisting of nutrient dense foods, plenty of water, Tulsi tea, and matcha.

How did I feel on Clean 7?

I felt great!  I found myself sufficiently full, less focused on snacks, very alert, more mindful of when I felt thirsty or hungry, and slept fantastic!

Was there any day of struggle during Clean 7?

Not really.  Days 3 and 4, which I predicted to perhaps be more challenging, ended up being far from that.

As with any type of new meal program where more discipline is encouraged, I think this was one of the few programs where deviating didn’t really seem of interest.

What do the activated protein shakes taste like?

The vanilla was flavorful, but not overpowering.  By adding in the right seeds, veggies, and fats it is thick and satisfying as a breakfast or dinner.  I chose to add in frozen cauliflower rice, spinach, flaxseeds, and almond MALK.

The mid-afternoon latte, “the golden latte,” was something I looked forward to. I’m a huge turmeric fan so this was delicious!

You end the day with Tulsi tea which I have continued to do since then.  It was also a key part of Elissa Goodman’s cleanse so I was familiar.

I’ve found that when you wind down your evening with a hot beverage that’s a non-stimulant, you drift off into a more peaceful and sound sleep.

What are my final takeaways from Clean 7?

Particularly when starting off certain days with a cleanse shake, it truly “wakes you up” and gets you in a mindful moment instead of just pressing brew on your coffeemaker and eating something mindlessly and strictly out of habit.

It makes you think: how hungry am I really? Also – how can I elevate my breakfast and get the most nutrients in to set the tone for the day?

Clean 7 really simplified things for me.  It all circles back to whole foods and minimally processed, right?

For lunch I did collard greens wrapped around turkey breast and some Ithaca lemon dill hummus.  If you haven’t tried this hummus – trust me – it’s worth it.  In my opinion, in moderation it’s so much healthier than other spreads.

I feel like Clean 7 helped me recognize hunger cues, didn’t deprive my body of what it needed, and made me look forward to the next day of it.

Would I recommend Clean 7?

Yes, I would.
