Is your toothpaste healthy?

We focus on the foods we eat to achieve a healthier body.  We mindfully move our bodies to reduce our cardiovascular risk, obesity, and to feel good.  When stressful life events happen, we talk to a therapist to help us navigate through them.

But today’s focus is on that daily, simple task we have been doing since we were kids.  Brushing your teeth.  Now is a good time to think about what you are cleaning your mouth with.

How healthy is your toothpaste?

It should be clean and healthy.

What are common “bad” ingredients found in most toothpastes?

Triclosan – “A powerful pesticide” “linked to liver and inhalation toxicity”; “disrupts thyroid function”. The Environmental Working Group is a great resource. The Environmental Protection Agency states, “It may cause changes in the human hormone system, harming reproduction and development.”

The FDA banned triclosan in hand soaps as of Sept. 2017, but it is still found in other bathing/beauty products.

Propylene Glycol – Information has come out that it may be “linked to damage of the central nervous system, liver and heart.”*

What clean brand toothpaste do I use?

My go to is the Hello brand naturally whitening toothpaste with tea tree + coconut oil.

Focusing on the good ingredients will be a positive change to your bathroom counter lineup.

Keep that smile white, the breath clean, and your body in tip-top shape by switching to clean brands.
