Are you curious what the lymphatic drainage system is?
Before diving into lymphatic drainage, it’s good to know what “lymph” is. It is “collection of the extra fluid that drains from cells and tissues. It also transports infection-fighting white blood cells.”*
Your lymphatic system is a “network of tissues, vessels and organs that work together to move a colorless, watery fluid called lymph back into your circulatory system.”*
Lymphatic system basics:
• It’s part of your immune system which is linked to health and wellbeing
• It protects your body from invaders who cause you to feel ill
• It removes cellular waste
• Any blockages, infections, more can affect lymphatic system function
• It absorbs digestive tract fats
• It maintains fluid levels in your body
Having a healthy lymphatic system plays a major role in your health.
We have two lymphatic ducts in our body – the right lymphatic duct and the left duct (the thoracic duct).
The thoracic duct is larger, measuring 38 to 45 centimeters long and 2 to 5 millimeters in diameter.** It is responsible for “lymph drainage from the entire body except for the right sides of the head and neck, the right side of the thorax, and the right upper extremity which are primarily drained by the right lymphatic duct.”**
Eating healthy, balanced, nutrient-dense meals, drinking plenty of water, avoiding pesticides or harmful cleaning supplies are suggestions to keep your lymphatic system healthy.
