5 quick and easy ways I get my protein in

I don’t have a lot of free time to craft fancy meals that take a lot of prep work, cook time and clean up. But with what time I have, I need to make it ‘me time’ in the nutrition department.

By ‘me time’ I mean consuming items that will help me energy-wise and nutrient-wise.

Why is protein so important?

“We need protein because it helps build and maintain our muscle, which in turn helps to fuel our metabolism,” said Kayla Kopp, RD, LD of Cleveland Clinic. “It’s essential for everyone.”

You can find various protein calculators online to determine how many grams a day is ideal for your height, weight and activity level.  If you need a quick overview of macronutrients, check out my interview with Albert Abayev here.

These are the 5 easiest protein snacks I lean into.

#1 Egg whites scrambled with spinach and topped with salsa

Why?

Lean, clean protein, nutrient dense and flavorful.  Easy to make! You’re talking start to finish in 5 minutes.

#2 Plain Greek yogurt with ground flaxseed

Why?

Whether you choose low-fat or fat-free, it is easily offering you 15 grams of protein in the yogurt alone!

A quick, cool protein cup with a tablespoon of ground flaxseed is giving you fiber, antioxidants, protein, a great source of vitamin B1 and those oh-so-important omega-3 fatty acids.

#3 Overnight protein oats

Scoop all ingredients in a glass jar the day before, stir, and pull out of the refrigerator to enjoy ASAP in the morning.

Why?

Protein powder, oats, chia seeds, Malk, vanilla extract, frozen blueberries, and cinnamon are giving you a great bang for your buck. These simple ingredients check so many nutritional boxes, while keeping you full for hours.

Just make sure and choose a clean protein powder brand. I am loving Elmhurst’s clean protein line.  Check out my favorite items from Expo West 2026 here.

Easy to make, easy to eat, easy to clean up.

#4 Healthy deli turkey with string cheese

Why?

A solid source of protein that is so easy to roll up and snack on. True Story and Diestel are two of my favorite brands because of the clean ingredients. Nothing extra.

Cheese because it’s giving sandwich vibes. You can roll it all in fresh collard greens (Erewhon style) and it’s a perfect way to accomplish getting some of your ‘greens’ in too.

#5 Cottage cheese with a handful of berries (or in a Ninja Creami recipe)

Good Culture cottage cheese with whatever healthy berries you like.  Raspberries for fiber; strawberries for vitamin C and heart health; blueberries to lower cholesterol and aid in blood pressure management.

Good Culture cottage cheese is in a class of its own. So clean, pure and delicious.

I hope these easy and healthy protein snacks help you out during whatever busy season of life you are in. It’s all about helping one another out.
